One of Dick Clark’s favorite memories through the years of his “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” events was the appearance of Chicago and the Beach Boys on his telecast welcoming in 1975.  Chicago was tapped to host the third annual telecast of “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” airing on December 31, 1974.  With “Wishing You Were Here” still on the charts, the program seemed to present the perfect opportunity to bring the two bands together for a live performance featuring Al Jardine on lead and the late Carl & Dennis Wilson on backing vocals.<\/p>\n

The Beach Boys joined the Doobie Brothers and Olivia Newton John as guests on the special.  On the telecast (taped Nov. 1, 1974), the Beach Boys performed “Good Vibrations”, “Surfer Girl” and “Darlin” (backed by Chicago’s horn section on the latter).  Carl Wilson, Mike Love, and Al Jardine sang background vocals during Chicago’s performance of “Wishing You Were Here”.<\/p>\n
