<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">Great collection of original 1960&#8217;s rock and roll TV performances.<br \/><\/span><br \/>The Dick Clark Saturday Night Beech-Nut Show was Dick Clark&rsquo;s second attempt at a prime time show.&nbsp; His first, a prime-time version of American Bandstand, ran only 13 weeks.&nbsp; The Beech-Nut Show was much more successful, lasting almost 3 years.<\/p>\n<p>The Dick Clark Saturday Night Beechnut Show was broadcast live from the Little Theatre In New York City.&nbsp; Every weekend, Dick Clark commuted from Philadelphia to NYC to do the &ldquo;Beech-Nut Show&rdquo;.&nbsp; There was actually two shows done each Saturday.&nbsp; The first was a rehearsal show where the artists could sketch out their performances and Clark could line everything up.&nbsp; This would have a different audience than the second show which was the one that was televised.<\/p>\n<p>Beech-Nut Gum was actually picked up as a sponsor for the third episode to the conclusion of the show&rsquo;s run.&nbsp; The artists that appeared usually &ldquo;lip-synched&rdquo; to their records.&nbsp; Very few actually performed live.&nbsp; This is the only show to be able to make the claim of having Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper as guests (although on different episodes).&nbsp; All three were killed together in a plane crash on February 3, 1959.&nbsp; Amazingly, Elvis Presley and Ricky Nelson, two of the biggest stars of the period, never appeared on the show.<\/p>\n<p><strong>March-14-1959:<\/strong>&nbsp; Musical guests include:&nbsp; Sam Cooke &ldquo;Everybody Likes To Cha-Cha-Cha&rdquo;, &ldquo;You Send Me&rdquo;;&nbsp; The Fleetwoods &ldquo;Come Softly To Me&rdquo;;&nbsp; Lou Monte &ldquo;The Italian Cowboy&rdquo;;&nbsp; Frankie Avalon &ldquo;Venus&rdquo;.&nbsp; Dick displays gifts that he has received from audience members and asks about their favorite dances.&nbsp; He does a bow and arrow demonstration and presents Frankie Avalon with a gold record and watch from Chancellor Records.<\/p>\n<p><strong>January-23-1960:<\/strong>&nbsp; Musical guests include:&nbsp; Jack Scott &ldquo;What In The World&rsquo;s Come Over You&rdquo;; The Everly Brothers &ldquo;Let It Be Me&rdquo;, &ldquo;Till I Kissed You&rdquo;;&nbsp; Mark Dinning &ldquo;Teen Angel&rdquo;;&nbsp; Jimmy Jones &ldquo;Handy Man&rdquo;;&nbsp; Robin Luke &ldquo;Bad Boy&rdquo;;&nbsp; Rod Lauren &ldquo;If I Had A Girl&rdquo;; several others.<\/p>\n<p>Dick talks about his making the Hollywood movie &ldquo;Because They&rsquo;re Young&rdquo; and announces his special movie premiere contest.&nbsp; He shows &rdquo;home movies&rdquo; from on the movie set and asks a girl in the audience the type of &ldquo;man&rdquo; she goes for.<\/p>\n<p><strong>November-28-1959:<\/strong>&nbsp; Musical guests include:&nbsp; Gary Stytes &ldquo;Starry Eyed&rdquo;;&nbsp; Bobby Freeman &ldquo;Ebb Tide&rdquo;;&nbsp; Rob Lauren &ldquo;If I Had A Girl&rdquo;;&nbsp; Lloyd Price &ldquo;Won&rsquo;t Cha Come Home&rdquo;, &ldquo;Come Into My Heart&rdquo;;&nbsp; Frankie Avalon &ldquo;Why&rdquo;, &ldquo;Swinging On A Rainbow&rdquo;.&nbsp; Frankie is interviewed and discusses his work in the film &ldquo;The Alamo&rdquo; and why he&rsquo;s growing his hair so long.&nbsp; Dick talks with the kids in the audience about his recent book &ldquo;Your Happiest Years&rdquo;.<\/p>\n<p><strong>September-12-1959:<\/strong>&nbsp; Musical guests include:&nbsp; Neil Sedaka &ldquo;Oh, Carol&rdquo;;&nbsp; Roberta Shore &ldquo;Love At First Sight&rdquo;;&nbsp; Bobby Rydell &ldquo;I Dig Girls&rdquo;;&nbsp; Paul Anka &ldquo;Melodie D&rsquo;Amour&rdquo;, &ldquo;Put Your Head On My Shoulder&rdquo;.&nbsp; Dick talks about making the film &ldquo;Because They&rsquo;re Young&rdquo;
