SLAYER was as usual, damn good. They have that drive and attitude and even if they’ve calmed down on stage the last couple of years they never appear as stiff as MEGADETH can do at times. Gary Holt of course is used to run around so he boosted everything a little extra this evening. But it was strange to see him in that corner of the stage instead of Jeff Hannerman. SLAYER. the image of this band is so solidly etched in my mind any changes will take a lot of time to adjust to. Ok, this is only temporary and Gary was absolutely the right choice when selecting the fill in but still, it is a bit odd. Gary did a great job on stage though, both musically and visually so all kudos to him. Ullevi Stadium literally exploded when SLAYER hit their first note. Amazing to see even if it meant we ended up in the middle of a mosh pit. It was great fun to see Tom Araya between the songs, just waiting, closing his eyes completely or squinted in a hinting way to the audience to get them to scream. It all worked and he looked so joyful and amused by the whole thing. Of course had this been impossible to see without the jumbo-tron’s since it is a huge venue. It’s both good and bad, it’s great to be able to watch up close and see these details in the bands faces but there’s also a risk the stage act is forgotten and it’s only the jumbo-tron’s pale light being watched. But it sure is hell is mighty when most everyone in the venue screams along to “War Ensamble”, “Mandatory Suicide” and “Raining Blood”. Who could have imagined this twenty-five years ago when this type of music was classed as dangerous? And now, this evening it was available in all Swedes living rooms, that’s cool. So yes, this was definitely another great SLAYER concert.
